Riding for cancer

This is my fund rasing letter for the hundred mile bike ride I am doing in CT this summer to raise money for cancer. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. If it looks sound already than please feel free to pass it on to anyone you think may donate.
Cheers!

My name is Jarem Frye. When I was fourteen years old I was diagnosed with bone cancer. This was a shock to my family whose only experience with cancer was the death of my grandmother ten years earlier. She had fought a painful battle with cancer and lost. Now my parents feared the same for me.
Thanks to a decade of advancements, however, I had better fortune than my dear grandma. After enduring nearly two years of intense chemotherapy, and the amputation of my left leg above the knee, I can gratefully say that I am alive and well. I am also proud to announce that I am a new dad! This means a lot to me because my treatment left me with very little chance of having children.
Sadly, several friends I made during my time in the hospital didn’t survive to live their dreams. Even now cancer kills as many mothers, fathers, siblings and friends as we lost in the terrorist attacks of 9.11 every two days!
Since I beat cancer I have accomplished many things I was told would never be possible. I became the first above knee amputee to telemark ski, wakeboard rock climb on the pro level.
This summer I will be riding in a 100 mile bicycle ride called the CT Challenge to rase money for cancer research. I have set a goal to raise $10,000 dollars to help make our future safer than our past. I am working hard to raise this money and to reach the level of fitness it will take to ride a hundred miles with only one leg.
I am trying to raise money for cancer, not because I am a cancer survivor myself, but to honor my grandmother's life and to improve my new son’s and all of our children's lives.
I would be greatly honored if you will help me reach my goal of raising $10,000 for this effort. Donations are tax deductible and you can donate securely by visiting my page on the CT Challenge website.
Please consider donating to my ride by contributing just $1 per mile mile of this ride. If you can donate more, please do. You can donate by going to the CT Challenge website www.ctchallenge.com and entering Jarem Frye as the rider you would like to sponsor.

Thank you so much!

Jarem Frye

  1. Hey cool! This sounds awesome! There's a few typos in your letter, is that the type of improvements you were asking for? I wish I had more money! If I did...well, no, probably I'd just keep paying my tithing and fast offerings. :) Someday I hope I'll have so much money that I can just hand it out to every charity that deserves it! I admire you for doing something so good to help others...and so challenging!

  2. Well written, Jarem. It should be successful. I'll donate if you don't give the money to the American Cancer Society or the FDA. I'm not sure I trust those people anymore after reading The China Study. The author is a man on the inside. Read it when you get a chance.

  3. Thanks for the kind words. Liz, typos would be a good thing to help point out. The money it going to the Yale Cancer Center. I would love any donations from family members but please don't feel obligated.
    Thanks everyone.

  4. "I became the first above knee amputee to telemark ski, wakeboard rock climb on the pro level." (add a comma and "and" or just an "and" between wakeboard rock climb).

"This summer I will be riding in a 100 mile bicycle ride called the CT Challenge to rase money for cancer research." (add an "i" in rase)

    That's all I found! It's a great letter!

  5. Just one more...

"Please consider donating to my ride by contributing just $1 per mile mile of this ride." (take out one "mile")

  6. Hey, I put this on The Bagel Factory, too. I hope it's okay. And I edited the typos and added a PS about where the money will be going after the race. Let me know if it's not okay, and I'll delete the post! I think it's an awesome cause!

  7. Thanks for all your help Liz. Sara was going over things and had me change a lot but she missed that i in "raised". glad you caught that or it would have gone through. Thanks for posting this on the Bagel Factory as well. I will be sending it out as an email soon so it can be forwarded on as well.
Thank for all your help everyone and thanks Daniel for making the first donation to the cause. That will help me get more coming in. It always helps when people see that other people have donated too.
    Cheers,
    Jarem
