  1. Oh man, how cute!! He DOES look like Joseph! I can't see me in him...of course, I can never tell which parent kids look like. I'm "tone deaf" in the child look alike contest. So, mom, I don't know where that other post went, but I have to comment on the tv show thingy. You know how annoying it is that your 2 month old son can already focus intently on the television? Seriously, every time we go over to our friend's house they have cartoons on for their sons to watch, which is okay for their kids, but I don't want Ari watching tv! And he does. He clues right in, and watches everything- and today he even got scared when a monster came on in The Incredibles. How sad is that. Our pediatrician said that until they are 3 years old, or sometimes older, children think everything is real- they can't tell the difference between play and life. Plus the tv can damage their brain, and cause learning disabilities....and there's a whole bunch of other things we've been learning...anyway, Jarem and I don't want Ari watching either the tv or the computer. Yes, we don't have tv hooked up (why pay 65 or more a month for junk) but I still like to watch my favorite shows online. You can get the news, tv shows, bbc world, Al Jazeera English, and basically anything you want on the internet- which is great, but still not something I want Ari watching. I love the Amazing Race, Lost, and Dancing with the Stars. You can't get American Idol online, or else I would watch that too. As Jarem told me the other day, "Hey Sara, Elizabeth was right. She said we'd watch a lot more movies and tv when Ari was a newborn, and we did!" There is only so much reading you can do, and then you go bonkers- so I understand you completely Elizabeth. Now he's getting older, and we can't watch stuff anymore until he's asleep. He is too smart. But mom, that's what Elizabeth and Dan do too- they wait until their kids are asleep. They're not dumb. You don't have to worry about your grandkids- Soren and Anders are being raised by the best parents in the world, and Ari is being raised by the best dad, and a mom who, well, she's trying. :) Heavens, your grandkids could do a lot worse! A few days ago we went on a picnic with some friends of ours, and I watched in total astonishment as the dad slowly fed his 2 year old girl a mountain dew bottle- she was coughing and choking the whole time, but he just kept giving it to her. These are the same people who watch rated-r movies with her, and use the hot tub with her all the time. I asked the mom if she thought it was safe to put her little child in their hot tub (she comes out beet red and panting) and she said, "Oh, yes, I was a health major at BYU, and I know all about kids." I said okay then, and left it at that. Wait, what were we originally talking about? Oh yes, tv. Well, it's the devil. The end. :) (I'm just waiting for my laundry to finish, that's why I write such long blogs dad- I'm usually in the middle of housework, and I get tired. The only time I can do anything is in the middle of the night- Ari pretty much needs my attention all day.) Guess what though! Today and yesterday I got to go out walking in the beautiful heat and sunshine- and I took Ari in the baby Bjorn- he absolutely loves it. I face him out, and he looks and looks around. My only problem is- he can get burned! Any suggestions? Ideas? I've been doing hats and long clothes (he gets really hot), and I can't use sun block on him, so what's a girl to do? I've been thinking about making Jarem build a sunshade umbrella to strap on around my neck- but Ari loves to look out, so somehow it'll have to be stiff and just stay above him. hmmm...well, I'm tired, and the laundry just finished.

  2. Thanks for the nice compliments, Sara! We aren't the best at keeping the TV off, though. Soren sometimes watches golf with Dan, and we're making a tradition of Saturday morning cartoons.

Hey, why don't you put sunblock on Ari? Is it that whole chemical thing you were telling me about? Good luck with that! I think you'll probably go crazy trying to keep your kids protected from the sun without using sunblock. Maybe you should use all your herbs and natural things to make some natural sunblock. Maybe you should check out the Good Earth to see if they have any natural sunblocks that you approve of. Seriously, I can see you a few months down the road just giving up on trying to go outside because there's no way to fully protect your kid without either roasting them in the summer sun with long clothes, or using sunblock.

I love your comments and posts! Ta ta. :)

  3. Yeah, Jarem says I should just make my own sunblock...I'm looking into it. Ari's already getting a nice deep tan on the lower half of his face- and that's frustrating!! I want him to enjoy the sunshine as much as I do (I'm always burning though), but not to get skin cancer like I'm going to. Nope, thinking positively now...no skin cancer for Sara. Gotta stay away from that. I can't help it- I LOVE sunshine. If we lived in Miami I would never go indoors. I like the sticky humidity too. Oregon gets some nice humid days. Like today was only 80 degrees, but it felt a lot hotter because of the humidity- yummy. I like going on walks and feeling the sweat running down my back in little rivets. Jarem thinks I'm crazy. Ta ta- that's funny. You sound like mom.

  4. You're weird. You actually like sweating? Weird. Weird. I can't think of anything else to say. It's just weird. Well, more power to you! :) I hope you're able to figure something out for Ari. Toodle-oo. (Does that sound more like me?) :)
